'Hurt' Bubba vows to return to Phoenix Open

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Bubba Watson had a week he'd like to forget at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, but he promised after finishing T-14 that he would be back next year.

Watson said earlier in the week that he was only at TPC Scottsdale because of his "three beautiful sponsors," but he apologized Friday, saying his criticism was only for the course and not the tournament and fans. But the notoriously rowdy crowd at the Phoenix Open didn't take the comments well. Watson was booed numerous times throughout the tournament, especially Saturday at the infamous par-3 16th.
"It really hurt me yesterday," Watson said. "It really hurt me a lot. Today was different. It's a different crowd today. Less people, so it makes your life better. But it really hurt me a lot, hurt my family a lot to see that and know how much we have supported this city, been behind this city."

Watson continued to stress that he loves coming to the Phoenix Open – he stays here with his family in the winter months – and he will be back in 2017.

"It was pretty sad that people think I don't want to be here," he said.
