Drmic: “I will play in goal if I have to”

New signing Josip Drmic tells us about the impending “special” game against his former club Borussia Mönchengladbach, his current form and his favourite position to play. 

Josip Drmic is in great demand this week. Hardly surprising, because less than two weeks ago the striker was in the squad of Borussia Mönchengladbach who visit the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg on Sunday (14.02.16) for an eagerly-anticipated Bundesliga matchday 21 encounter. It will be his second appearance in a HSV shirt. He told us: “It is of course a special game for me.” He added that he would have no problem celebrating should he score. Drmic: “I would be incredibly happy just to finally score a goal again.”

I am really relishing the game. The positive thing is that they are coming to Hamburg and we have a home game.

Any useful tips? Bruno Labbadia will surely be talking to Drmic before his former team visit Hamburg.

...his current form: I tried to make a mark in my first game. Everyone saw that it went anything but perfectly. I was not satisfied with my performance. Hopefully the next game will be different. I have a further week of training under my belt. A week during which I have got to know the team better and they me, and to take the philosophy of the coach on board. I will try to give my all for my new team and put into practise what my coach wants from me.

Drmic is only interested in being on the pitch again – regardless of which position he is told to play.

...expectations from Gladbach visit: We are in good shape and relishing the game. We have a couple of days to prepare properly. The performance against Cologne was not ideal, but we have taken some positives from it. We have to perform like we did after the break in that game. That way we can take a further step in the right direction.
...favourite position: I am flexible in that regard, but of course I prefer to play a central role up front, where I am closest to goal.. The main thing is to be on the pitch and give my all for my team regardless of where I play. The important thing is success. I would even play in goal if I had to.
