Manchester United youngster Anthony Martial plays down Thierry Henry comparisons

The French forward also had some words on his partnership with Wayne Rooney and the coach who has been particularly important to him

Different: Martial says he doesn't believe he and Henry are particularly alike

Manchester United starlet Anthony Martial has played down comparisons with Arsenal icon Thierry Henry.
The French youngster has been likened to Henry since his arrival at Old Trafford, owing to similarities between the pair's style of play.

But in an interview with MUTV, for the show Martial: The Story So Far, Martial says that while the pair may have both come from Les Ulis and been with Monaco as youngsters, he reckons they are very different.

"Since we came from the same town and share the same beginnings in the game, I've been compared to him a lot.

"Although I don't really think we are very much alike when playing, it's always nice to be compared to a great player and I hope one day to try to attain the levels he achieved."

Martial also heaped praise on United captain Wayne Rooney, saying that playing alongside England's record international goalscorer is helping him to improve.

The pair have 23 goals between them for United this season and Martial added: “It’s always nice, it allows me to keep improving and also to feel more relaxed when playing alongside him.

"When you see someone like Rooney, you feel that bit more confident.”

The young Frenchman also credits current Bordeaux boss Willy Sagnol - the former France international - for playing a part in his progress.

"There was a particularly important coach for me. Willy Sagnol, the current Bordeaux manager, who was running the French U21 team at the time.

"I was at Monaco and wasn't playing in the first team then but turning out for the reserves and he picked me for the French U21s.

"It was that which allowed me to keep playing at a decent level of form and to tell myself that I could still make it as a player in the professional game."
