Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo refutes Arturo Vidal's 'ugly' tag

Antoine Griezmann's strike was all Atletico Madrid needed to secure a second UCL final berth in three seasons.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has hit back at Arturo Vidal for the Bayern Munich midfielder's comments that the La Liga club played ugly football in their Champions League semifinal.

The Chilean had said that Atletico didn't deserve to progress from Tuesday's second-leg tie, telling COPE it was "one team who played ugly football against the best team in the world."

Despite Bayern's overwhelming possession numbers at the Allianz Arena, Antoine Griezmann's goal meant that, despite losing 2-1 on the night, Atletico triumphed on away goals and set a date with Real Madrid in the final in Milan on May 28.

Vidal told COPE radio's "El Partido de las 12" show that Bayern had "managed the game" but were simply unable to take their chances.

Speaking to Radio Marca on Wednesday, Cerezo addressed the Chilean's comments, saying: "Our football is ugly? It's fantastic, and we play to win. We're in an enviable situation.

"A lot of people have congratulated me. Now more than half of Europe is Atletico Madrid!

"You have to congratulate the team, the players, the coaches and the fans. And you have to give thanks for this win which takes us to the final."

Cerezo added: "We got past PSV, Barcelona and Bayern. Whoever we face now, we'll give the same.

"The players are very well prepared and have a terrible excitement. We had the belief we could get to Milan and we did. We're still believing in La Liga and we're up there.

"I always say that the Champions League is possible for us. It would be our first and it would end a fantastic season."
