Gotze, who netted the winner in the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina, started for Joachim Low’s men.
Liverpool have been tracking the 23-year-old for several months with Jurgen Klopp a big admirer of the player he worked alongside at Borussia Dortmund for four years between 2009-13.
Gotze looked to be on a brink of a Bayern Munich exit this summer but with Pep Guardiola departing for
Manchester City to be replaced by Carlo Ancelotti, he has hinted at attempting a fresh start with a new coach.
However, Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge warned Gotze they he would still find playing time difficult to come by next season.
Gotze, who completed the 90 minutes for his country, responded to questions on his future by declaring: “I think enough was written and done.
“I’ve said everything about this. Now I’m at the Euros and don’t want to say anything about this.”
Meanwhile, German football expert Lee Price told the Daily Star that Gotze’s move to Anfield was all but done before the midfielder performed a dramatic U-turn.
He said: “Gotze was all set to go. His representatives met Liverpool before Christmas last year and talks went well.
“He looked into life in England and at places to live on Merseyside. It very much looked a sure thing.
“But now he’s had a change of heart and believes he can prove himself to incoming coach Carlo Ancelotti.”
