Bayern to wear new kits in final match against relegated Hannover

Bayern Hannover 2016

The Bundesliga title may have already been wrapped up, but before the league ends Bayern have one more match at the Allianz Arena against Hannover 96. A game played only for pride… with their new kits!

Hannover’s game plan

The term “game plan” may be a bit generous here because overall Hannover have not really shown that they have much of a game plan this season.

According to Whoscored.com, Hannover are good at defending the league but it remains a mystery how they would know this, considering that they almost never had a lead. As a team, Hannover 96 have been pretty bad this season and have been favorites for relegation for a long time.

The stats are poor: only 30 goals scored this season (while conceding 58) but it should be noted that nine of those goals game from set pieces. Hannover will probably try and pull a fast on Bayern and score on from the air, which is an area of the game that they are somewhat decent at having won 47% of their duels.

There are some bright spots, though. Their best player this season has probably been Hiroshi Kiyotake, who has assisted six goals this season. While it is nothing fantastic from an attacking midfielder, it has a lot to do with how wasteful Hannover are up front.

Kiyotake has created 57 chances this season and provided 51 key passes, which means he is far and away the biggest offensive threat to Bayern Munich. Die Roten will have to shut Kiyotake down if they do not want to concede a goal, because there is a good chance the playmaker will make a few chances in this game.

Another notable facet to Hannover and their attacking setup is that a total of 39% of their attacks come from the right side. David Alaba (or Juan Bernat) will have their work cut out for them. This is far and away their favorite way to start an attack, very likely from Kenan Karaman who has three goals and two assists this season.

Bayern have an easier job

Luckily for the fans, new kits will be on display and they look like this:

On the pitch, they should not stress it too hard and try not to get injured. A very important match is coming up soon against Borussia Dortmund in the DFB Pokal final, and it would feel pretty sweet to have a big win over BVB again this season.

Even though this match is not very important, that does not mean that Bayern will not want to win it. After all, it is the last match of the Bundesliga this season and it is always good to end on a high note. FCB can probably field a mostly B squad against Hannover 96 and still come out OK, but if they want to win this game they also cannot just sit back.

The first order of business will be to shut down Kiyotake with an aggressive midfielder. If he is cut off, than Hannover will not be able to create many chances. This is also a game where whoever plays at left-back will have to be on the alert.

A noticeable weakness for Hannover is that they are very vulnerable when defending against teams that attack down the wings. Given Bayern’s plethora of talent in that area, this game should be more or less decided there. Pep Guardiola has a tendency to want to build the attack from the back and attack down the middle.

Hannover are also weak against defending on counterattacks, so some good counter-pressing can make this match an even easier win.

An unimportant match for everyone

Bayern have already won the league and Hannover are already not coming back to the Bundesliga next season, so really this match means nothing for either team. Bayern just need to not get anyone hurt and should rest key players. Still, ending the Bundesliga on a win is always nice.
