According to the Mirror, Arsenal and Barcelona are set to battle for the signature of Schalke 04 star Leroy Sane. The promising midfielder had been linked with a move during the January transfer window, but nothing materialised. Meanwhile, Sky Germany expert Kristian Sommer says, another Premier League outfit, Liverpool, will also join the race for highly-rated attacker.
Since breaking into the first-team at S04, the progress of the 20-year-old has been clear to see. He has been involved in nine goals this season, scoring five, and has emerged as one of Europe’s hottest properties despite having played just 34 games in the Bundesliga.
European clubs are monitoring his development closely, but a move to England could have several major advantages over a future at Barcelona.

There are several ‘untouchable’ attackers at the Spanish giants – Luis Suarez, Leo Messi and Neymar, while he could compete for a place in the team with creative midfielders like Andres Iniesta and Arda Turan, the Essen-born playmaker would likely have to wait for a long time to become an important part of the Blaugrana. However, there is less competition at Arsenal and Liverpool, who are in need of ‘new blood’.
For Sane, it could be much easier to adapt to English football due to his playing style. He’s quick, explosive and prefers to attack from the wing, provide crosses or shoot from distance. At Barca, the plan of attack is mostly through the centre and play with short, sharp passes.
Playing with fellow countrymen would also help him settle in a new team and a new country. There are two Germans at Arsenal, Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil, and two at Liverpool, with Emre Can and manager Jurgen Klopp. Only Marc-Andre ter Stegen would be able to welcome Sane at the Catalan club, he may leave the Camp Nou at the end of the season.
The managers – Both Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp are known for their ability to guide and shape the careers of young talented players, while Luis Enrique does better creating a side from established players.
The lure of Barcelona is always hard to resist, but for his future, a move to the Premier League could be a better for Sane’s long-term career.
