Going for gold: Ennis-Hill is set to prepare for Rio as planned
Jessica Ennis-Hill will prepare as planned for the Rio Olympics and not rush to judgement over the Zika virus.Warnings have been issued about the dangers of the virus, for which there is no vaccination and which can lead to babies being born with underdeveloped brains.
Ennis-Hill became a mother in 2014 and regained her world heptathlon title last summer to reaffirm her status as one of the stars of Team GB.
The Olympic champion is closely monitoring the Zika situation but her coach Toni Minichiello insists no decision will be made until much nearer the time.
“As a coach you look at it and think, ‘Ooh…’ It’s definitely on a list of things we need to consider,” he said.
“We’ve already had a bit of a discussion because we’re in the planning stage for Rio.
“But it would be premature to make a call now. We don’t know a huge amount about it and I’m hearing conflicting things. We’ll wait for more info and judge it in July.”
