Price Crash: Klopp free to sign 'extraordinary' £4m international who wants Liverpool transfer

Despite the recent recruitment of Schalke defender Joel Matip, Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Jurgen Klopp-favourite Neven Subotic, and new reports this week suggest that Dortmund will let him go for a knockdown price.

According to Talksport:

"Borussia Dortmund are willing to sell Neven Subotic for £4m. Liverpool are...frontrunners for Subotic's signature but Hamburg also hold a strong interest".

Subotic - hailed by Klopp for his 'extraordinary' performances - reportedly wants to follow Klopp to Anfield, and when asked recently about the Liverpool rumours, BVB Director Michael Zorc told BILD:

“Neven is not happy [at Dortmund], and there are strong indications that he will say his farewells. Klopp wants to take him to Liverpool".

This deal should be a non-starter due to Subotic's injury history. It just doesn't compute: Given the club's current (and historical) injury issues, what is the point in signing yet another perpetual sicknote? Subotic's history:

* 12 injuries in the last four years, including a cruciate ligament injury (351 days on the sidelines/88 games missed).

* This season: 10 games missed already as a result of a persistent back problem. Started only 5 games all season.

The idea of Subotic is enticing, but the reality is that he will probably get injured in the Premier League, which is even more physical than the Bundesliga.

Additionally, can the team support another central defender?

If Liverpool sign Subotic, and let Toure go, that'll leave Matip, Skrtel, Lovren, Sakho, and Subotic fighting it out for two places, which is (IMO) unhealthy competition.

Subotic admitted this week that he's 'not satisfied' with sitting on the bench at Dortmund, and I doubt he'll move to Liverpool without assurances of regular first team football.
