Michael Pereira’s six year association with Real Mallorca
is now coming to the close with the expiry of his contract. It was a
turbulent relationship shared between the two parties, the Frenchman
seemed to be in a continual state of wanting to leave (indeed he did in
an uneventful year on loan at Granada in 2014/15). But that time has now finally come.
The 28-year-old has received a generous offer from Turkey and this
could well be his next destination. But rival clubs are certainly
demonstrating interest in taking Mallorca’s former numero siete with the likes of Real Valladolid, Almería and Real Zaragoza
all in competition with each other for Pereira’s signature. Although
often criticised by fans, the winger is usually rated by his coaches and
a relatively central part of their plans.
He will be followed out of the exit door by fellow winger Manuel Arana.
The veteran winger joined Mallorca in 2014 but following the completion
of his two year contract the island side have opted not to renew. He
impressed in his first season with los bermellones finishing as
one of the top scorers, but injuries blighted his time at the club and
at the age of 31 the decision is not surprising.
The futures of Tobias Henneböle and Ferrán Corominas
also hang in the balance. Both are surplus to requirements but the
German central defender has a year left remaining on his contract whilst
Coro has two. Mallorca’s sporting director Javier Recio
is going to have to find a resolution to this problem as the veteran
attacker Coro is relatively well paid too – this may cause the islanders
a headache.
The case of the German youngster is a curious one. Certainly one of
the more bizarre transfers in Mallorca’s recent history – signed on a
free transfer after being released by Wolfsburg last
season. The 24-year-old has only played one game in his season in Palma
and is now ready to be shipped back out of the door.
