24-hours or so after 'casting doubt' over a move Thomas Meunier, who was
also linked to Napoli and West Ham, has completed a move to Paris
Saint-Germain from Clube Brugge with the right back signing a four-year
deal.
His arrival comes hot on the heels of new PSG boss Unai
Emery bringing in Hatem Ben Arfa and Grzegorz Krychowiak to make him his
third signing already ahead of the upcoming 2016/17 season.
Meunier
was allowed to briefly leave the Belgium squad a few days ago to hold
talks with PSG ahead of the quarter-final defeat to Wales with him
saying he had 'a lot of doubts' about this move as he was concerned by
how much 'playing time' he would be given.
It was made perfectly
clear by the 24-year-old he didn't want to be 'warming the bench all
season' so he was continuing to access his options....
Having
done that he's come to his decision with his conclusion being the Parc
des Princes is the right place for him to continue his footballing
career telling psg.fr
he feels it is an honour to be signed by Les Parisiens with him looking
to keep improving his game playing alongside some great players we
already have.
'I am very honoured to have been chosen by Paris
Saint-Germain to come and bolster a squad that already features a number
of great players. I signed for Paris because I have a huge desire to
keep improving, experience at the highest level and win titles. I can`t
wait to play in the fantastic Parc des Princes stadium.'
Meunier
did have options and Nasser Al-Khelaifi is aware of this with him happy
to see him opt for PSG where the 'great ambitions' of both parties can
be shared.
'I am happy to welcome Thomas Meunier to the Club, a
player with an enormous potential. Thomas drew a large interest from
many of Europe`s top club resulting from winning the Belgian
championship this past season as well as playing with the Belgian
national team. He has made the strong choice of joining Paris
Saint-Germain, a club with whom he will now share his great ambitions.'
