Chelsea, Bayern on alert as AS Roma must sell one of Nainggolan, Pjanic, or Rudiger — reports

Financial Fair Play (FFP) has so far been more akin to the boogeyman or the tooth fairy or other childhood scare tactics than anything with actual teeth and consequences.  That's not to say that some teams haven't felt some effects — though when the likes of PSG and Manchester City get away with daylight robbery and skate by without any serious repercussions, one does begin to wonder if anybody (outside of smaller leagues like Turkey) should ever be concerned about any potential punishments that might get handed out.

And yet, according to reports in Italy this weekend, AS Roma are in fact concerned and need to raise around €30m this summer to pass FFP standards to avoid a fine or worse.  They plan finding this money not in couch cushions but in someone else's coffers, after letting go one of Miralem Pjanić, Radja Nainggolan, or Antonio Rüdiger (once they make his loan from Stuttgart permanent).  So despite bold words from Roma directors, it sounds like they might just sell one of their prized midfielders.

That doesn't necessarily mean it's advantage Chelsea for signing Nainggoaln, as, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Bayern are looking to bring in Pjanic after deciding to pay his €38m release clause.  Roma might sell one of the two, but not both.

The Nainggolan move has yo-yo'd between hot and cold over the past few weeks.  I'm not sure which temperature this rumor is, but I have a feeling, if Bayern are involved, that it's not all that helpful for our chances.
