The Frenchman is expected to leave Newcastle United this summer.
Quoted by the Chronicle, Florian Thauvin’s agent has insisted there has been no contact with Lazio over a move for the Newcastle United flop.
Thauvin is expected to leave St James’ Park this summer after a disappointing first year at the club.
He originally joined in a £12 million deal from Marseille last August, but managed just one goal in his 16 appearances. He returned to the French club on loan in the January transfer window and enjoyed an upturn in form in Ligue 1.
A permanent return to the French side has been mooted, while he has also been linked with Lazio, with the Chronicle reporting that manager Marcelo Bielsa is keen on a reunion.
However, his agent has insisted that there has not been any contact from the Serie A side at present.
“There could well be interest for him, as there has been for others trained by Bielsa,” Fabrizio Ferrari told the Chronicle.
“I do have a rapport with (Lazio director Igli) Tare, but we never talked about Thauvin. When a big club like Lazio arrives, it is only normal he is flattered by their interest, but for now there are no negotiations.”
It now remains to be seen whether Newcastle can offload Thauvin in this summer transfer window.
The player is clearly keen on an exit at some point and all indications are that the club are willing to sanction his departure, too.
Much will likely rest on the price they can get for them, with the Magpies likely to be keen to minimise their losses on the attacking midfielder.
Will Newcastle sell Florian Thauvin this summer?
