Bolton Wanderers have announced long-serving chairman Phil Gartside has died at the age of 63.
The club made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon with Gartside passing away after a short battle with cancer.
Vice-chairman Brett Warburton said: “Phil has been a personal friend for over 30 years and this is a very sad day for everybody associated with Bolton Wanderers.

Gartside had stepped away from his duties with the club in November.

Gartside was appointed Bolton chairman in 1999 after serving on the
board from 1989, and was in charge when Sam Allardyce led them to the
Premier League in 2001.He was also a member of the FA board and part of the selection committee that appointed Roy Hodgson as England manager.
Gartside handed over the club's recent takeover negotiations to football finance executive Trevor Birch as his health deteriorated.
