Guiao says Cone should’ve been ejected: ‘Bakit pag ako, ang bilis ... Pag sila, bigay ng bigay’

RAIN or Shine coach Yeng Guiao implied that Ginebra counterpart Tim Cone should’ve been ejected with the way he was complaining to the referees late in their PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinal game on Sunday night.

Cone was called for a technical foul with 53 seconds left after crossing the hash line to complain following the referees decision to award possession to the Elasto Painters after a review of a play.

“That’s the rule,” Guiao said. “Sinabi na sa amin yun na if you cross the hash line, that’s an automatic technical. “That’s why I was asking the refs why he could do that. They stated the rules very clearly.”

“Maybe you could get beyond the hash line by two or three steps, but he was already on our side,” he added. “I don’t think there’s any question about a technical foul there.”

Despite getting a first infraction, Cone refused to stop complaining, even reaching centercourt to complain to league officials on the other side.

“And if I did as much complaining as he did, I would’ve been given another technical foul and get ejected,” Guiao said.

“Bakit pag ako, ang bilis ng dalawang technical? Pag sila, bigay na bigay,” added the fiery mentor, who picked up two successive technical fouls late in the first half of his team’s win over Mahindra last March over a questionable offensive foul called on Maverick Ahanmisi.

Cone had already left the venue when scribes tried to reach him for a comment.
