Man Utd midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger was heroic for Germany at the 2014 World Cup but might not be fit enough for Euro 2016 in France.
Ozil won the World Cup with Schweinsteiger
Schweinsteiger, 31, has been ruled out for the rest of the season by Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal with a knee injury and is struggling to be fit for the France finals.
The former Bayern Munich midfielder produced a Herculean performance in the 2014 World Cup final victory over Argentina and has played for Die Mannschaft at every major tournament dating back to Euro 2004.

England took an injured David Beckham along to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, partly because they were bidding to host the 2018 World Cup, and Arsenal playmaker Ozil hops Germany do not make a similar decision.
Ozil told German news agency SID: "Bastian Schweinsteiger is a footballer, not a mascot.
"We do not need him as third assistant coach; we need him with his experience and game intelligence on the pitch."
