Mesut Özil rather worryingly insists he’s in no hurry to sign a new deal at Arsenal, but has hinted that finishing his career at the north London club is certainly not out of the question, as reported by German publication Sport-Informations-Dienst (via Goal).
There have been growing concerns over the future of Özil, with fans worried that our poor performances and failure to challenge for trophies would see him evaluating his options. It’s certainly a valid concern, and if we continue to play the way we have done this season then it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the likes of Özil and Alexis Sanchez looking toward the exit.
Although many reports have suggested we’re going to struggle to hold on to the German international this summer, he certainly hasn’t seemed unhappy at the club.

It would be great to see him sign a lengthy contract extension, but as he says, there’s no real hurry, and it can at least wait until the end of the season.
“There’s no hurry,” Özil said.
“I have two years left on my contract.
“We’ll see how it goes at the end of the season.”
He also didn’t rule out remaining in England with Arsenal for the remainder of his career, although the idea of returning to Germany or making a switch to Turkey are clearly on his mind
“I’m not saying that I definitely must return to the Bundesliga or spend time in Turkey,” he added
“But I’m not ruling it out either. Maybe I’ll finish my career in England.”
If we were to lose Özil it would be a real blow on so many levels, not only because we’d be losing a truly top class player, but also due to what it says about the direction of the club.
We need to be adding world class talent to the squad and build a team capable of challenging for the title and the Champions League, not letting our best stars become disillusioned and leave after a few seasons.
The world’s best players want to know that the club and the manager have a plan for the future and hope to build toward something bigger and better, and if we continue to stagnate and if anything move backwards, then these sorts of players definitely wont want to come to the club.
