Playing a big part in Liverpool’s
fantastic win over Dortmund in the Europa League, Mamadou Sakho is set
to miss his side’s semi-final clash with Villarreal on Thursday, and
could miss a lot more.
Failing a drugs test due to the alleged
discovery of a fat-burning substance in his sample, the France
international and his club decided he would not play until the matter
was over.
Were he to be found guilty of substance
abuse, the centre-back could face a similar sentence to his teammate
Kolo Touré, who was banned for six months in 2011 for testing positive
for diet pills during his time at Manchester City.

Quickly becoming an integral part of
Jürgen Klopp’s defence after the German took over, Mamadou Sakho will be
missed by his teammates on Thursday night, as José Enrique, widely
overlooked this season, explained to Marca.
He said: “His absence will affect us.
Sakho is a key piece of our team. We’re annoyed for him because he’s a
great footballer and a great friend. He made a mistake and faces
punishment. Personally, I think it was silly. These things happen.”
The Spanish left-back has only made three
appearances for Liverpool’s first-team this season, all in the FA Cup,
and has spent most of his time either on the bench or with the team’s
under-21s.
