The young Spaniard scored the winning strike on Wednesday night as Los Colchoneros will head to Germany with a 1-0 advantage
Diego Simeone refused to be drawn on whether midfielder Saul could receive a Spain call up after his goal in the 1-0 win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, insisting that he can still improve.
The 21-year-old, in his breakthrough campaign after coming through the youth system, scored the only goal as Atletico Madrid earned victory in the Champions League semi-final first leg.
The result leaves Atleti in the driving seat ahead of the return at the Allianz Arena, but Simeone remained coy about his young star.
“Saul could play for Spain but I respect Vincente Del Bosque too much to say anything,” he stated. “The player is working hard and can still improve.”

Atletico are looking to dispel the ghosts of their 1974 European Cup final heartache at the hands of Bayern, and Simeone believes they can now feel confident of reaching this year’s showpiece in Milan.
“Today’s match gives us the opportunity to go play in Munich and take our chance,” he continued. “We imposed ourselves in the first half and felt comfortable, but they made their presence felt in the second.”
