Despite signing players from around
Europe and barely playing them, Chelsea have a knack for selling
bit-part players to Wolfsburg for lots money.
They did it with Kevin De Bruyne, which
was a genius move by the Bundesliga club, and they also did it with
André Schürrle, which wasn’t such a genius move by the Bundesliga club.
The German winger, who was having the
time of his life with Bayer Leverkusen before his move to Chelsea, has
been used as a rotation player by Wolfsburg in the league, starting only
18 of his side’s 31 games.
Scoring six goals and picking up five
assists in the process, the 25-year-old isn’t entirely happy about his
current situation with the German side, and Kicker report on Monday
talks could be forced by the player at the end of the season.
Telling Sky in Germany he wanted to ‘talk
about the future’ after the next few games, Schürrle could try and
force a move away from Wolfsburg, even if his contract runs until 2019.
With this in mind, Kicker seem to believe both Liverpool and Tottenham could be interested in the his services were he to be put on the market in the summer.
Klopp, who will have had plenty of time
to watch the player during his time as Borussia Dortmund manager, could
be interested in the winger’s pace and end product, two assets that made
him such a danger during his time at Bayer Leverkusen.
As for Pochettino, depth is key as he looks to build on this season, regardless of whether they win the Premier League or not.
The important question, however, is: will Schürrle want to return to England, where his time at Chelsea wasn’t exactly ideal?
When the Schürrle claims first appeared, we were skeptical, and that hasn't changed.
