With his towering presence and TV personality fiancee, Andy Carroll is used to being centre of attention.
However the West Ham striker took the spotlight at Upton Park on Monday with a new hairstyle which swarmed around social media.
The Hammers forward had a plaited ponytail on display before scoring the winner for Slaven Bilic's side against Southampton.

Carroll, with his new flamboyant haircut, scored the winner in the victory over Southampton on Monday
Carroll has never shied away from expressing his unusual wardrobe and certainly hasn't held back with his latest Barnet.
However Carroll is not alone on the football field with some bizarre haircuts gracing the turf this season.
Since
the introduction of the Premier League in 1992 fans have witnessed
several eye-catching cuts, Sportsmail looks back at the best.
ABEL XAVIER
The
Portuguese full back came renowned for his eclectic blond combination
of hair and beard over two spells in the Premier League with Everton,
Liverpool and then Middlesbrough.
Abel Xavier, hitting a pass for Liverpool, became a fan favourite in the Premier League due to blond Barnet
DAVID JAMES
Former
England goalkeeper David James may have been one of the most consistent
performers in the Premier League over two decades. During his spell in
the top flight James chose a variety of opinion-splitting haircuts.
Perhaps the worst was his straightened comb-over during his Portsmouth
days.

BACARY SAGNA
Manchester
City right back Bacary Sagna was certainly recognisable in the stands
due to his 'spaghetti' haircut. Signing for Arsenal in 2007, the France
international kept his braided look until signing for Manuel
Pellegrini's side in the summer of 2014. New start, new lid it seems.
Former Arsenal full back Bacary Sagna has since chopped off his 'spaghetti' hair at Manchester City
RAHEEM STERLING
There
is undeniable talent and potential with rapid forward Raheem Sterling
but his choices of haircut have often left fans puzzled. The 21-year-old
burst onto the scene at Liverpool and his sensational form earned a
controversial move to Manchester City in the summer but his haircuts
have yet to improve.
Former Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling displayed this questionable haircut choice back in 2013

JASON LEE
When
anyone mentions former Nottingham Forest striker, few would talk of his
goalscoring exploits across many divisions in the United Kingdom. Lee
is famous for his 'pineapple' haircut which was a true football sticker
favourite in the 90's.
GERVINHO
Ivory
Coast striker Gervinho was particularly hit and miss during his
two-season spell in north London. However the former Arsenal forward's
middle-parted hair failed to increase his prowess amongst the Gunners
fans.

FABRICIO COLOCCINI AND DAVID LUIZ
Perhaps
they grew their hair as a ploy to distract opponents, as Newcastle
captain Fabricio Coloccini and former Chelsea defender David Luiz
channelled their inner 'Sideshow Bob' (Simpsons fame) with their curly
afro locks.

BARRY VENISON
One
of the worst on display in this collection is the mullet which former
Newcastle defender persisted with during the 90's when the questionable
Barnet was well out of fashion.
CESC FABREGAS
Remarkably
Cesc Fabregas brought the mullet into the Premier League when arriving
at Arsenal but quickly learnt such a look wouldn't work in England in
the 21st Century.
Newcastle defender Barry Venison (left) back in 1995, persisted with his mullet hair cut at St James' Park

MAROUANE CHAMAKH
Another
former Arsenal forward has a baffling haircut in Sportsmail's list.
Marouane Chamakh, now at Crystal Palace, chooses to keep his haircut in a
style with all sorts of angles going on.
Crystal Palace striker Marouane Chamakh has persisted with this haircut in the Premier League
MARIO BALOTELLI
Unsurprisingly
Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli, currently away on loan at AC Milan,
makes the shortlist. The mercurial striker struggled to make an impact
at Anfield but has been a constant source of amusement with his style
and flamboyance during spells at Liverpool and Manchester City.

JAMIE LAWRENCE
Former Bradford winger Jamie Lawrence clashed with their maroon home strip by spraying his hair with a bright red.

FREDDIE LJUNGBERG
He
was part of the 'Invincibles' and became one of Arsene Wenger's finest
signings however few remember the horrid custom haircuts the Swede
produced in his early days for the Gunners. Unlike Lawrence's choice, at
least they matched the club's classic colours.
IAN WALKER
The
so called 'curtains' were of the 90's boyband ilk and Premier League
keeper Ian Walker stayed true to that image throughout his career.
That's dedication to a haircut.

DAVID SEAMAN
Reminding
fans of the Pringles man, Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman was mocked
for his nasty combination of moustache and ponytail.
Former England and Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman, with team-mate Sol Campbell, grew this ponytail
NICKLAS BENDTNER
Another
Gunner makes the shortlist. The Dane courted controversy with his
outlandish statements of being one of the best in the world but failed
to back up his apparent talent with goals or haircut choices. His
topknot was particularly woeful.
Nicklas Bendtner pumps his fist in celebration having scored a rare goal for the Gunners back in 2013
MARKO ARNAUTOVIC
Stoke forward Marko Arnautovic has kept the 'hipster' trend of the top-knot flying in the Premier League this season.

DJIBRIL CISSE
French
striker Djibril Cisse thrived in the spotlight and loved nothing more
than matching his gregarious fashion sense with a wild hairstyle.

PAUL SCHARNER
Wigan and West Brom fans were blessed to have the ever-changing dyed hair of Paul Scharner.

TARIBO WEST
You
would normally associate pigtails with schoolgirls but former Derby
defender Taribo West always wore his hair in braided pigtails. Unusual
to say the least.

JOE COLE
This
was certainly one way to announce your return to the squad. Joe Cole
arrived at pre-season training with West Ham sporting a striking curving
red mohican back in 2002. It didn't last long.
JAVIER MARGAS
Last
but by no means least, West Ham's Chilean defender Javier Margas played
with his hair dyed in the West Ham colours for a match against
Croatians NK Osijek in the UEFA Cup back in 1999. Wow.
Here is one sure way to please the fans, Javier Margas played with his hair dyed in the West Ham colours
