Cana was sent off after 37 minutes of Albania's Euro 2016 opener with Switzerland on Saturday.
Albania's Lorik Cana looks dejected after being sent off
It's fair to say that Sunderland fans were not that surprised by Lorik Cana's performance during Albania's European Championship debut.
The former Black Cats captain was red carded on 37 minutes after
picking up two yellow cards during his side's opener with Switzerland on
Saturday.
His first booking of the game came after an typically strong
sliding challenge midway through the first half, before a bizarre
handball saw him handed his marching orders.
Lorik Cana during his time at Sunderaland
Cana, who was brought to Wearside by Steve Bruce in 2009, spent
just one season at the Stadium of Light, but Sunderland fans still have
plenty of memories of the 32-year-old's time at the club.
His reputation as a strong tackler and no-nonsense enforcer made
him something of a cult hero with many fans, although his ability to
lose his cool often caused him to be labelled a liability.
And many Sunderland fans were quick to rekindle those memories on
social media shortly after Cana, now of French side Nantes, was
dismissed.
