Belgium
international Januzaj made 12 appearances on loan at Dortmund last
season and played alongside Mkhitaryan in 11 of them before he returned
to Manchester in December.
Januzaj made three cameo appearances
at United this calendar year and, in May, was bizarrely named on the
substitutes' bench for the lunchtime kick-off at Norwich despite playing
for the Under-21s the previous evening.
United are working on a
deal to sign 27-year-old Armenia international Mkhitaryan, who is out
of contract at the Westfalenstadion next year. His agent, Mino Raiola,
reportedly overturned a chair during heated negotiations with Dortmund chiefs earlier this week.
Raiola told Bild : "Henrikh is not the type to have conflicts, he leaves that to me. We will not give up!
"We
have both taken very different views and fight for them like lions," he
said. "(Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim) Watzke walks 180 degrees into one
direction and I 180 degrees into the other. But even though it does not
look like it right now, I still hope for a sensible solution.
"Such
an offer to join Manchester United might only come once in a lifetime
for a player and nobody can guarantee us that the door will still be
open for Micki next season. Manchester are Micki’s dream club, he wants
to join them by any means."
Mkhitaryan scored 23 goals and provided 32 assists last season and is out of contract at Dortmund next year.
United
signed Shinji Kagawa from Dortmund four years ago and also explored the
possibility of signing Robert Lewandowski, Mats Hummels, Ilkay
Gundogan, Marco Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at various stages.
