» Davies refuses to say whether Celtic are targeting sought after 17-goal striker
Assistant boss refuses to comment on Dembele
Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies has not admitted or denied that the club are interested in signing striker Moussa Dembele.
The Scottish Sun believe the Bhoys are targeting the former Fulham striker after the 19-year-old’s contract expired, but when asked by STV News, Davies would only say that they have their targets and will be working hard to sign players in the coming weeks:
“There’s a lot of work being done by the club and the recruitment
department on that. Everything is ongoing, and these things take time so
we’ll see. We’ve got our targets, the club are working towards that and
everyone is working very hard behind the scenes so we’ll see how we go
in the next few weeks. Once there’s something to tell you, you’ll be the
first to know.
“We’ve identified what areas we need to strengthen in, and we’re all
working hard collectively now to try and make sure that we bring people
in that can improve the team and take us forward.”
Dembele’s move to Tottenham Hotspur collapsed in January after Fulham and the Premier League club agreed a fee for the player.
The transfer failed to go through after Spurs refused to allow the player to go back on loan for the remainder of the season.
The Frenchman scored 17 goals in all competitions last season and is
highly rated with his former strike partner at Fulham and Scottish
international, Ross McCormack, saying it would be a “massive coup” if
Celtic managed to sign him ahead of Premier League clubs this summer.
