Arsène Wenger has paid tribute to Tomáš Rosický describing him as a “privilege to have worked with” as the Czech international prepares for his final tournament.
Rosický ended a ten-year stay with Arsenal this summer after joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2006.
And his former manager can only be complimentary about their time spent together even if there is a sense of regret
“He has a lot of quality, when he gets the ball, the game becomes much faster.” Wenger said (via Marca).
“It’s frustrating that he can’t continue with us but it is a privilege to have worked with him.”
The midfielder in total would make 246 appearances for the Gunners scoring 28 goals and creating a further 22 in the process winning three pieces of silverware including back-to-back FA Cups.
However, his time in North London has often been plagued with various long-term injuries, ranging from rupturing his Achilles tendon to a serious knee injury.
These debilitating setbacks would greatly impact on his playing time for example across the last nine seasons he would he’d feature in 185 matches whilst missing 159.
In the season just gone Rosický would only feature in just one of Arsenal’s 53 competitive fixtures his worst in a single campaign since being entirely absent in the 2008/09 season.
It came in the FA Cup fourth round at home to Burnley FC in which he played the final 19 minutes.
Currently without a club Rosický, the captain of the Czech Republic, is getting ready to represent them in their fifth European Championship.
One of three centurions in the squad, alongside vice-captain Petr Čech and fellow midfielder Jaroslav Plašil, he is also their leading scorer with 23 goals.
