Just a few minutes after signing a new one-year contract extension, Paris Saint-Germain defender Maxwell spoke of his joy at signing on for another season.

Maxwell, last year you told us was going to be your last at Paris Saint-Germain. What happened to change your mind?
“Everything that happened last season had an impact on my decision. I felt really good physically all season and capable of helping the team. My excellent relationship with the club, the supporters, it all encouraged me to stay. Today it’s all come together, I’ve signed and I’m very happy!”
Last season, Paris Saint-Germain completed a second quadruple in a row. What are your goals, both individual and collective, for the coming campaign?
“I don’t really like talking about my personal goals. I prefer to put the team first and foremost. The aim is to continue being competitive and go as far as possible in every competition, to keep winning titles. The club deserves it.”

With 32 trophies, you are the most decorated player in the squad...
“I always try to give the maximum, to be professional and help the younger players. It’s always important to find the right balance in a squad of players. Our squad has a lot of quality. Next season, if everyone is fit and available for the key moments of the season, we can achieve great things.”
Is this a turning point for the club with your good friend Zlatan Ibrahimovic leaving the club?
“It’s a huge change. Zlatan was a key player and helped us win all those trophies. Today we are starting a new cycle. But we are still confident for the future of the club.”
What can we wish you for the future?
“Good health! That’s all I need. But for the team and me, it’s to win as many trophies as possible, of course!”
