Liverpool transfer target again unclear about future, won't commit to current club
It's no secret Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan might be looking to switch clubs in the summer. The player signed a one year contract extension last summer, and made it quite obvious that he is still considering his options.
Gundogan's contract at Dortmund expires at the end of next season, but it's very likely he'll be sold in the summer if he doesn't agree a new contract before that. He was linked with a move to Juventus and Liverpool in the winter transfer window, but most reports suggested Dortmund wanted to wait at least until the summer.
He also admitted publicly that he has not taken a decision yet, and is considering his options. It seems
Gundogan is talking again, suggesting that he is finding a solution that makes everyone happy, and doesn't want to leave on a free in 2017.
Gundogan is quoted by DW as saying "It is hard to set a deadline for myself. You also need to listen to your feelings. I am not going to put a lot of stress on myself, but I also want to keep all the parties satisfied.
"Of course I want to avoid a similar situation that came about last year
"I still feel incredibly good with BVB. That was also the case last season. I enjoy wearing the jersey. It speaks volumes for BVB, but the decision still needs to come. At the moment, I am relaxed.
"Of course I will make a decision that is fair for all parties, but it depends on various factors. We don't have anything to keep secret. When there eventually is something, then we will announce it."
Italy's Calciomercato suggest Juventus have made huge efforts to sign the player last month, and also offered more than €20m, but only received a 'no' from Dortmund.
It won't be surprising if Liverpool step up their interest in Gundogan, as Jurgen Klopp would surely want to sign a quality midfielder in the summer, but Champions League qualification is a must if the Reds want to attract big names.
Gundogan may say he wishes to avoid a similar situation to that of last year, but without signing a new contract quickly that's exactly what's going to happen.
