» West Ham in talks for Argentinian striker: Move could be delayed by passport issue
WEST HAM are pressing ahead with a deal for Deportivo Maldonado striker Jonathan Calleri, according to reports.
West Ham have reportedly entered negotiations with Jonathan Calleri
Calleri was bought by the Uruguayan club in January and then immediately sent on loan to Brazilian side Sao Paulo.
Since his arrival in Brazil, the striker has been turning heads and has scored eight goals in 10 appearances for the club.
This is good news for
Uruguayan second-tier side Deportivo Maldonado, who use investors to
sign players and then sell them on at a profit.
Calleri's performances have caught the attention of West Ham and Italian website Tutto Mercato Web claim negotiations with the Premier League side are well on their way.
The 22-year-old claimed last year he was keen on a move to the Premier League, admitting he follows Chelsea and Manchester City.
"I’m very interested in the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga," he said.
"Of the latter, I watch Real Madrid and Barcelona and in England, I follow Chelsea and Manchester City."
However, a move to the UK could be delayed as he is still awaiting an EU passport, according to website Sport Witness, which he hopes will be granted through his Italian heritage.
Calleri was born in Argentina but is yet to make a single appearance for the South American country at any level.
