Sergio Busquets urges Barcelona board to sign Nolito

Sergio Busquets urges Barcelona board to sign Nolito.

Barcelona are yet to formally complete any signings this summer, although Villarreal winger Denis Suarez is expected to return to the Camp Nou over the coming weeks after the Catalan giants activated his buy-back clause.

Suarez might not be the only Spaniard who Luis Enrique adds to his squad ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

Nolito, a member of Spain’s Euro 2016 squad, is also being linked with a move to Barcelona - just as he was during the winter transfer window.

The Celta Vigo winger, who is also believed to be on the radar of Arsenal and Manchester City, enjoyed an excellent 2015-16 season - scoring 12 goals in 29 La Liga appearances - and has carried over his eye-catching form into the European Championships.

Nolito, 29, scored Spain’s second goal in their 3-0 win over Turkey and played 82 minutes in La Roja’s opener against the Czech Republic.

Busquets: Nolito is worth the money

One star name who has been impressed with his performances is his Spain teammate Sergio Busquets.

The Barcelona holding midfielder has, according to Catalan newspaper Sport, urged the club’s board to pay the money required to sign Nolito.

"In the present day, 18 million euros buys only the boot of a great player,” Busquets was quoted as telling ‘Onda Cero’ on Monday night, “so the price is good for Nolito.”

Pique: €18m for Nolito is a bargain

The same sentiments have been echoed by Barcelona and Spain defender Gerard Pique, who recently told reporters: "Nolito is a bargain at that price."

Nolito may want to think twice about Barcelona move

While the opportunity to move to Barcelona would tempt any ambitious player, Nolito could be forgiven if he requested time to carefully think about whether such a transfer would benefit his career.

Of course, he would be part of a star-studded squad competing for major trophies every season - but how much would he actually play?

Neymar is expected to sign a new contract extension with Barca in the very near future, despite reports linking him with a move away from the club, and he occupies the left-hand side of Barcelona’s attack.

Nolito, if he signed for the Spanish champions, would not be a starter.

He only needs to look at Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal, two players who signed for Barcelona last summer, to see how careers can be adversely affected by joining a club where competition for first-team places is so fierce.
