» Spain 1-0 Czech Republic: Follow the stats, action and reaction LIVE!
Spain begin their quest for a third straight European Championship win with a match against Czech Republic in Toulouse today.
Vicente del Bosque’s side are on a 12-game unbeaten run at the Euros,
stretching back to 2004, but all is not perfect for the Spanish coming
into the game.
The side have been forced to show unity with serious allegations currently hanging over the head of goalkeeper David de Gea.
De Gea denies allegations that he paid
for and organised an encounter in 2012 which is now linked to a sexual
assault case from 2012, known as the Torbe scandal.
Spain are also keen to set right their failure at the 2014 World Cup
in Brazil, where they were knocked out at the group stage following
losses to the Netherlands and Chile.
They still have one of the strongest
squads in the competition, with a midfield of Cesc Fabregas, Andres
Iniesta and Sergio Busquets a real strength.
Czech Republic, meanwhile, have the familiar faces of Tomas Rosicky
and Petr Cech to rely upon, while the creativity of Vladimir Darida will
be crucial to their chances going forward.
Pavel Vrba’s team qualified top of
their group, but conceded 14 goals in 10 games and will need a strong
performance against the fluidity of Spain’s attack, led by Alvaro
Morata.
With Spain looking to gather momentum and the Czech’s needing points
in a competitive group it promises to be an interesting game. As ever,
you can follow the game in Squawka’s match centre.
