The Hammers could yet land the Lyon front man this summer.
Alexandre Lacazette has warmed to the prospect of a West Ham United move after witnessing the success of Dimitri Payet, according to French publication Foot01.
The report claims that the remarkable season enjoyed by Payet and his subsequent return to prominence on the international stage could be enough to persuade Lacazette to make the switch, despite the Hammers’ lack of Champions League football.
West Ham have reportedly had several bids for the 25-year old turned down, with a £32 million offer the latest to be rejected, as covered by The Sun.
£40 million is rumoured to be the figure needed to prise away one of Ligue 1’s top strikers and that would represent a considerable outlay despite the Frenchman’s impressive return of 23 goals in 43 games last season.
The Hammers have wasted no time in boosting their squad and announced the signing of Sofiane Feghouli on a free transfer this week in what is a real statement of intent.
West Ham enjoyed a fantastic campaign last term and with the Olympic Stadium ready to go it is certain there are exciting times ahead for the East End club.
Should West Ham spend £40 million on Lacazette?
