Mexico and Chile are fighting for the final place in the Copa America
semifinals, with the reigning CONCACAF and CONMEBOL champions meeting
at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Mexico won Group C, thanks to Tecatito Corona's incredible late goal
against Venezuela in the group finale, while Chile finished second in
its group to Argentina after outlasting Panama. Javier "Chicharito"
Hernandez is aiming to make history, as he'll tie Mexico's all-time goal
record, currently held by Jared Borgetti (46), with his next strike. He
scored against Chile in a pre-Copa America tune-up, coming off the
bench on his birthday to decide the 1-0 result late in the match.
Chile jumped out to the early lead through Edson Puch. Guillermo
Ochoa had made a strong diving save on Marcelo Diaz, but he parried it
right to Puch, who fired into the vacated net. The goal capped a series
of Chilean pressure in the opening quarter hour and stunned the
pro-Mexico crowd:
