» Report: Gerard Pique will look to convince Arsenal star to join Barcelona during Euro 2016
The Spain defender is likely to sound out Hector Bellerin about a move to the Nou Camp.
Arsenal
fans are likely to already be bracing themselves for an approach from
Barcelona for Hector Bellerin, and they could well be given more reason
to worry as Sport reports that Gerard Pique will try to persuade his fellow defender thathis future lies at the Nou Camp.
Bellerin has been a hugely impressive and consistent performer for the Gunners in his second season as a first-team regular, making 44 appearances in all competitions and missing just two Premier League fixtures.
That form has seen him earn a first call-up to the Spanish
national side and a place in their squad for Euro 2016, with head coach
Vicente del Bosque tipping the 21-year-old to be a star for La Roja.
It has also seen the Bellerin attracting interest from around Europe,
and one of his main suitors are widely thought to be Barca, with Dani
Alves reportedly set to join Juventus.
That would leave the Catalan giants needing a new right-back, one
who would be good enough to slot into the side immediately and also who
could be groomed and moulded for the future.
Bellerin fits that criteria perfectly, and Sport suggests
that Pique, a senior figure for both club and country, will attempt to
sell life at the Nou Camp to the youngster whilst they are away on international duty.
There is the added fact that the right-back began his career in
Barca's La Masia academy before leaving for Arsenal as a teenager, like
former Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas before him.
Fabregas, of course, eventually felt the pull to go home and left
the Emirates to return to the Nou Camp, and though Bellerin insisted
earlier this year that he had no thoughts of a return, Arsenal fans will
inevitably be nervous of Pique whispering in the youngster's ear over
several weeks this month.
