Newcastle fans react on Twitter to £30million valuation of player axed by Benitez

Georginio Wijnaldum

Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to have their say on the £30million valuation placed on Georginio Wijnaldum.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio revealed on his website the staggering price-tag placed on the Holland international by the Magpies.

As reported by Football Insider, Newcastle want to make a £15million profit on the player they signed last summer from PSV Eindhoven for £14.7million, the third-biggest signing in the club’s history.

The free-scoring midfielder, 25, was a regular starter for most of his debut season at St. James’ Park, scoring 11 times from his attacking midfield position while playing in all 38 Premier League games.

However, he was axed for some of the final matches of the 2015-16 season as the club tried in vain to escape relegation.

Nevertheless, manager Rafael Benitez is refusing to sell any player for less than what he feels is a fair fee.

The Chronicle reports that Wijnaldum  is wanted by a number of clubs around Europe, as well as West Ham and Everton.

On Twitter, some have praised the hefty figure, some seem to think Newcastle are dreaming and others think the audacity is simply impressive. Here are some of the messages:

In other Newcastle news, a Bundesliga club have been told to increase their bid for a 26-year-old Magpies player.
