Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to have their say on the £30million valuation placed on Georginio Wijnaldum.
Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio revealed on his website the staggering price-tag placed on the Holland international by the Magpies.
As reported by Football Insider, Newcastle want to make a £15million profit on the player they signed last summer from PSV Eindhoven for £14.7million, the third-biggest signing in the club’s history.
The free-scoring midfielder, 25, was a regular starter for most of his debut season at St. James’ Park, scoring 11 times from his attacking midfield position while playing in all 38 Premier League games.
However, he was axed for some of the final matches of the 2015-16 season as the club tried in vain to escape relegation.
Nevertheless, manager Rafael Benitez is refusing to sell any player for less than what he feels is a fair fee.
The Chronicle reports that Wijnaldum is wanted by a number of clubs around Europe, as well as West Ham and Everton.
On Twitter, some have praised the hefty figure, some seem to think Newcastle are dreaming and others think the audacity is simply impressive. Here are some of the messages:
£30m for Wijnaldum is a bit too much, but I'd be disappointed if he went for less than £20m. His goals last season means we can demand that.— Jacob Jackman (@JakeJackmann) June 14, 2016
Hamburg have bid 12m Euros for Sissoko sell him off asap!! and Newcastle have slapped a 30m pounds proce tag on Gini Wijnaldum brilliant!👏👏— Mahmud (@MahmudKullane) June 14, 2016
Sky Italia are claiming we've told Roma they can have Wijnaldum... For £30m hahaha! Nobody will ever pay that! /Dave— TOON ROLLERCOASTER (@ToonCoaster) June 13, 2016
Apparently we've set a high price tag of 30 mil for Gini Wijnaldum. Surely that will put teams off, i'll be happy if it does and he stays!— Talk Of The Toon (@talkofthetoon9) June 13, 2016
Got no issue at all with @nufc selling Sissoko, Wijnaldum etc. But make sure we do what all other clubs do. Get top dollar for our "assets"— Steven Patterson (@Patty_518) June 14, 2016
£30m price tag on Wijnaldum. Rafa ain't messing... #nufc— Lee Robson (@LeeRobson23) June 13, 2016
In other Newcastle news, a Bundesliga club have been told to increase their bid for a 26-year-old Magpies player.
