England boss Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will start for the Three Lions at Wembley tomorrow night against Portugal, in their final Euro 2016 warm-up match.

Henry Winter Tweeted the following message from Hodgson’s press conference this afternoon:

Rooney came off the bench last Friday night against Australia at the Stadium of Light to score England’s second goal, and it made the difference as the Three Lions won the clash 2-1.

The Manchester United captain missed the first of England’s three warm-up matches against Turkey at the Etihad just over a week ago, as it came a day after he’d won the FA Cup at Wembley with the Red Devils.

Hodgson though has now confirmed that his captain will start for England tomorrow night against Portugal.

Rooney extended his own goalscoring record for England to 52 on Friday night with his superb finish against Australia, taking him three-clear of Sir Bobby Charlton.

The United skipper scored eight goals in the Premier League this season, but his form late in the campaign playing behind Marcus Rashford – who made the final 23-man squad for Euro 2016 yesterday – in the centre of midfield was superb, as he was outstanding in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.

Hodgson is likely to go with a strong line-up at Wembley tomorrow, with Harry Kane also possibly starting, which begs the question as to which position Rooney will feature in.
