Arsene Wenger picked Arsenal pair Laurent Koscielny and Mesut Ozil in his best XI of the first round of games at Euro 2016, but left out Gunners forward Olivier Giroud who became the tournament’s first goalscorer.

Both Koscielny and Ozil has been in decent form so far this tournament for France and Germany respectively, helping their nations to unbeaten starts in the competition.

Ozil is joined by Manuel Neuer in goal, Jerome Boateng at centre-back and Toni Kroos in midfield, while the Arsenal playmaker assumes the No.10 position in Wenger’s line-up.

Wenger deliberately left the left-wing role in his team vacant, asking the interviewer for Tencent Sport to select the player for this position. The Arsenal boss seemed very happy when she named France’s Dimitri Payet for the role, joining international compatriot Koscielny in the side.

Italian duo Antonio Candreva and Graziano Pelle were opted for after Italy’s brilliant start, with Wenger choosing the Southampton striker over Arsenal’s own Olivier Giroud, who himself has also enjoyed a decent opening with a headed goal against Romania at the Stade de France.
