Arsenal receive two massive blows on the transfer market

Arsenal receive two massive blows on the transfer market

Arsenal have been linked with a number of big names during the summer transfer market, even after signing Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach fairly early.

Arsene Wenger desperately wants to bring another Premier League crown to the Emirates, but has been given two massive blows regarding a couple of transfer targets.

First up: Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan international has been on the Gunners’ radar for a long time and was rumoured to leave Paris Saint-Germain after another frustrating season in Paris.

However, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic leaving the Ligue 1 champions this summer, the club are reportedly keen to lock up Cavani with a massive new contract.

According to Calciomercato’s Fabrizio Romano, the French giants have offered the 29-year-old striker a renewal offer, which would see him remain at the Parc des Princes until 2020, and earn £6.3 million a year. Including bonuses, this figure could rise up to £7.9 million a year.

Next up: Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Borussia Dortmund star has been unwilling to extend his current contract at the club, which ends after the 2016/2017 season, and has been linked with a number of top clubs including Arsenal.

However, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed to BILD that the 27-year-old will not sign a new deal with the club, but they will not sell him until next year.

“We’ve been negotiating a new deal with him for four months and we now know he won’t sign an extension. But we came to the conclusion that Mkhitaryan will stay in Dortmund next season.”

Mino Raiola, the player’s agent, recently also said that Manchester United was the move Mkhitaryan wanted most this summer.
