Bundesliga fans set for protest as Werder Bremen face Stuttgart in first Monday night match for 16 years

While Stuttgart have been allocated 4,000 tickets for the relegation clash, fewer than 800 are expected to make the 785-mile round trip 

Stuttgart fans are set to protest

As the Bundesliga gears up for its first Monday night match in 16 years, fans are preparing to protest.
Werder Bremen host Stuttgart tonight in a hugely important fixture at the bottom of the table.

Just two points separate second bottom Werder from fourth bottom Stuttgart, but the decision to host the match on a Monday evening has led to uproar among both sets of supporters.

While Stuttgart have been allocated 4,000 tickets for the relegation clash, fewer than 800 are expected to make the 785-mile round trip.

Some Werder Bremen fans will also boycott the game, but the hosts are still expected to fill the home section of their 35,000-seater stadium.

Stuttgart sporting director Robin Dutt said: "As bitter as it is to us that a lot of fans are not going, we have to understand their decision.

"It's great that they want to come on Sunday before leaving. It's a great gesture and a good sign."

In an effort to increase broadcasting revenues, at least five Monday night Bundesliga matches night next seasons, and there have been protests about the proposals in all 18 stadiums this season.
