Arsenal FC transfer news: Gunners target Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski

Arsenal have entered the race to sign Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski in an attempt to boost their forward line, according to reports in the English media.

The Poland striker has been in superb form this season, scoring 27 goals in the Bundesliga so far and helping his team lead the league table by a comfortable five points with just two more matches to go.

Lewandowski’s performance in the Champions League has been great as well, with the Poland international scoring eight times in 10 appearances this season — an effort that has contributed towards Bayern Munich’s place in the final four of the tournament. However, the Bavarians now find themselves in a spot of bother after having lost the first leg 1-0 to Atletico Madrid.

The Poland international indicated last week that he would like to experience life in the English top flight at some point in his career. Interestingly, Lewandowski was rejected by Blackburn Rovers in the early days of his career before he joined Borussia Dortmund.

Arsenal, who have been struggling with their forward line this season, are set to join the race for Lewandowski’s signature, according to a report in the Daily Mirror.

Lewandowski has three years left on his contract, which means that Bayern can actually demand a hefty fee for the Poland international’s transfer. Based on Transfermarkt‘s valuation, Lewandowski could cost Arsenal something  in the region of £55 million.

How deadly can an Ozil-Lewandowski combination be?

Robert Lewandowski is the perfect definition of a modern striker. The Poland international is a clinical finisher, has pace and the ability to beat a defender in one-on-one situations, and is excellent in the air. Jurgen Klopp played a huge role in Lewandowski’s development, making him play as an attacking midfielder for a season before letting him loose on the opposition defenders in a more advanced role. That has ensured that Lewandowski has an array of tricks up his sleeve to beat defenders.

Being a natural finisher, he is excellent at sniffing out half-chances and has the innate ability to be in the right place at the right time. However, the 27-year-old can be an even more lethal weapon when there is a good passer like Mesut Ozil in the side.

The Germany international has showcased his supreme passing ability at Arsenal this season, providing 18 assists — the highest in the league so far. One can only wonder what the combination of Lewandowski and Ozil can do in the Premier League, especially with more talented players like Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla also in the mix.
