The Germany Women’s U17s begun their European Championship campaign in Belarus with a 2-2 draw. Anouschka Bernhard’s team took on Spain at the City Satadium in Slutsk in their first group match. Klara Bühl was the saviour for Germany as she scored a brace to earn them a point.

Three goals in three minutes

After a goalless first half the match sprung into life spectacularly in the second period. Firstly, Silvia Rubio put her team ahead three minutes after the restart. Bühl replied barely a minute later though with an equaliser for the Germans. Rubio wasn’t finished and pulled her team in front again with her second of the game in the 45th minute.

It stayed that way for a long period as the DFB-side struggled to find a way back into the game. However, they continued to push on and eventually, in the 74th minute Freiburg striker Bühl levelled the scores again. DFB coach Bernhard had warned her team about Spain ahead of the match: “Spain have been very strong in past years.”

Next group game against Italy

In the second group match, the U17s will face off against Italy on Saturday, 7th May (15:00 CEST) before taking on the Czech Republic in their final group match on Tuesday, 10th May (15:00 CEST).
