A couple of weeks ago German magazine SportBild said despite the determined efforts of Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, Ousmane Dembele would become a Borussia Dortmund player. There was nothing anyone could do, it was all agreed, and Dembele had committed himself to playing for BVB next season.
Those claims were backed by others in France and Germany, but the player's club Rennes, his agent, and himself all denied any idea of a done deal.
Speaking to Sport Witness, Dembele's agent Badou Sambagué explained: “It’s only rumours. There has been no meeting and no discussions with clubs.”

Dembele himself told beIN Sports last week: "I do not know what will happen this summer. I have signed a three-year contract last November and I'm fine in Rennes. The transfer market rumours bother me, but we do not pay much attention. As for now, I have no agreement with any team, I don't know if I'm ready to play abroad."
Tuesday's copy of L'Equipe appears to backtrack on some of their earlier claims and states that tomorrow there will be a meeting between Rennes and Dortmund to try and agree a deal and finalise things, making it very clear that hasn't already been done.
They accept Dembele himself has been reluctant to move to the Bundesliga, but add there's been rumours he's started to learn German. The 18 year old isn't even completely sold on the idea of moving at all, but his club seem to want the money.
L'Equipe believe the player could be sold for €15m to €20m, with Rennes keen on the funds to help their finances. And that's what all this seems, that both clubs have got far ahead of themselves in how close this deal was to being done. Perhaps even still, the player and his representatives aren't as much involved in this as they should be... it's his future after all.
