Football- Saido Berahino- Saido Berahino must get over Tottenham move and prove his worth to West Brom, insists Tony Pulis

The 22-year-old has cut a frustrated figure at the Hawthorns with West Brom blocking a deal - and Pulis insists he needs to get his head right

Going nowhere: Pulis has a warning for his wantaway striker

Tony Pulis has held talks with Saido Berahino to finally convince the striker to get over West Brom blocking his potential move to Spurs.

England prospect Berahino, 22, has not looked the same this season since a mooted switch to Tottenham last summer collapsed.

Albion owner Jeremy Peace refused to sell the forward after his 20 goals last season.

And Peace has continued to adopt a hardline stance this month by slapping a huge price tag in excess of £25million on Berahino, which has frustrated both Spurs and Newcastle.
Berahino is now likely to remain an Albion player for the rest of the season despite not starting for the club since October as he has scored just four goals and slipped down the pecking order.

Frustrated: Berahino has been used sparingly by West Brom

“He’s got to get back to playing football and we’ve talked about that,” admitted Pulis ahead of Peterborough’s visit in the FA Cup.

“It’s just his mindset about joining a top club in England then not being able to do it. It’s been more a mental thing with Saido.

“I said to him: ‘sometimes in life things don’t run your way, you have to react in a way that’ll take you to the next step’.

“You can’t fall over and stay down too long, you have to get straight back up. This’ll affect him until this window closes.

“The player has to clear his mind and get down to doing what he does best - that’s playing. It’s not doing anyone any favours and it’s certainly not doing Saido any favours at all.

"He’s a footballer and a young lad, he’s got this talent, he should be playing 38 games a season every season.

“He’s missed too many games this half of the season without a doubt. It’s trying to put that right and put that in his mind.

“He’s not got a problem with anything else.
“Fingers crossed, we’ll get him back with the sharpness and the fitness that we would want with 10-11 games to go.”
