Mexico ride wave of 'home support' while Argentines invest in Copa America final dream

Mexico ride wave of 'home support' while Argentines invest in Copa America final dream

El Tri fans have gobbled up the seats reserved for the group winners' quarter-final but fans of the reigning champions have bet on a repeat in USA

The Copa America Centenario is the hottest ticket in the Americas this month.

To celebrate 100 years of football’s oldest international competition, all of South America has flocked north to join their most famous cousins in the first outright inter-American international tournament.

Mexico have ridden the momentum of what feels like home support in USA to two consecutive victories that assures their place in the knockout stage.

And confidence was so high that 22% of tickets of the tickets for the quarter-final at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, set aside for the Group C winners, have been purchased by Mexican nationals, according to Ticketbis sales data.

More than 82,000 took their seats at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Thursday to see El Tri defeat Jamaica – the biggest attendance of the competition so far.

However, despite not winning a title in over 10 years, Argentina have been the most optimistic. 44% of tickets for the final at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey have been purchased by Argentineans, with an average ticket price currently sitting at $719 from Ticketbis.

That brings the average cost of a Metlife seat to $474.53, dwarfing Chicago’s Soccer Field which is currently the next expensive venue at $326.11.

Only USA nationals have outspent Argentinean and Mexican fans, with 31% of all Copa America Ticketbis sales going to locals.

The cheapest ticket this month was found at the University of Phoenix stadium where one fan paid just $59.88 to watch Ecuador vs Peru. The most expensive, of course, is a ticket for the final, at a whopping $1,813.87.
