Fatherly advice: "Don't go blowing kisses"

There’s been plenty of fatherly advice this week for Australia U20s backrower Angus Scott-Young with dad, and former Wallaby Sam, lending a few tips in the lead-up to two-match ‘Junior Bledisloe’ series.

Sam Scott-Young won three of his four Bledisloe clashes against the All Blacks in a period of dominance for the Wallabies in the early 1990s but made his name in Test rugby by winking and blowing kisses at his Kiwi opponents during a haka in 1992.
The former Test enforcer doesn’t remember much the game though after being knocked out in the early stages.

“I definitely won’t be blowing kisses after he ended up after the game,” son Angus said.
“He (Sam) just said ‘go hard’, play like its any other game but respect the Kiwis as they’ll be a really good uniform.”
The two-match series against the Junior All Blacks at Bond University on the Gold Coast shapes as a warm-up for the World Rugby U20 Championship in Manchester next month.

It’s as much a test of combinations as getting match fitness for Adrian Thompson’s side as the team continues to gel following the inaugural Super U20s Championship this year.
“The standard is a lot higher now, especially with Victoria making the final,” backrower Harley Fox said.
“The Victoria style is quite flamboyant, they like to throw the ball around and up here in Queensland, they have so many great players coming through.”

Fox played both Rugby codes as a junior, and featured in underage Queensland Rugby League sides after growing up in Ipswich, west of Brisbane.

“I love that I came from League and playing Rugby now,” Fox said.
