Cousin: Aubameyang a good fit for Arsenal

Former Gabon international Daniel Cousin believes Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ready for a move to the Premier League.


The Gabonese striker scored 39 goals in all competitions this campaign to help Dortmund to a second-place finish in the Bundesliga, as well as a spot in the DFB-Pokal final, where they lost to Bayern Munich on penalties, and speculation about his future has intensified after the season.


Cousin said of a possible move to the Premier League: "I think he wants to move, he wants to move to England."


In an interview with BBC World Service, he said Aubameyang can cope with the rigors of the Premier League and asserted that the time was right for a move for the 2015 African Footballer of the Year: "The Premier League is a different style than Germany, it is more physical. For me, it's a good moment for Pierre to move to a big club like Man United and Man City."

Asked whether or not he thought Aubameyang would be a success Cousin replied: "Yes, I think he can score more goals and take more experience with (a) big team."


Cousin believes that the managerial quality at the Manchester clubs could take Aubameyang to the next level: "They are now with [Jose] Mourinho at Man United and [Pep] Guardiola [at Man City]; this kind of coach can help Pierre-Emerick to more progress."


Cousin was asked to pick which club he thought Aubameyang should move to and responded: "Arsenal, because the team plays very well. Arsenal need a striker (to win) the title, if he plays with [Mesut] Ozil, Ozil gives good assist(s) and I think he can play very well with this team."


Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel has insisted that Aubamayeng is going nowhere but as one of Europe's most exciting young stars, it seems unlikely that the 26-year-old will wear the black and yellow of Dortmund for much longer.
