Am not with real madreid yet-wendell
Brazilian left back Wendell has said he's not with Real Madrid yet as speculation builds of a summer's offer to Bayer Leverkusen for his services.
Having been said to have been identified as a long term replacement for Marcelo, he has often been linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu but we are yet to firm up any interest.
Speaking to AS, the 20 million euro target for Paris St Germain in January explained.
'I`m very happy about Madrid`s interest, but I can`t forget that I`m not there yet. I`m still at Bayer Leverkusen, so it gives me stimulus to play even better and means their interest doesn`t only continue but increases and, hopefully, leads to them signing me. For any player, regardless of their nationality, playing for Real Madrid is a dream. I would walk to Spain to play for Real Madrid.'
I'm pretty sure his parent club won't appreciate his words there, but on the other side of the coin it is either refreshing honesty from a player in terms of his hopes, or a very public come and get me - and possibly even both.
The full back also commented in the interview that he would love to team up with one of his idols - Marceloa himself.
'Marcelo is an idol and a reference for me; Roberto Carlos is a legend and myth. It would be a wonderful challenge to continue the tradition of great Brazilian players at a club with so much history. I`d love to, really. I don`t know Marcelo, but I`d be honoured to be his understudy and learn from that. For me, he`s been the best left-back in the world for years. People talk about Alaba, but for me there`s no comparison. Marcelo is a reference for anyone.'
With a struggling season in La Liga, embargo potential aside, it certainly seems set to be a busy summer for whoever may be called head coach for 2016-17.
