Bundesliga clubs could scupper Manchester United and Liverpool target plans

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund could scupper transfer plans of Manchester United and Liverpool in the transfer window.

United have held a long-term interest in Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels, but it seems like the German international prefers a move to Bayern Munich instead. Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that Hummels is considering a return to the club.

Hummels, who left Bayern Munich in 2008, has only one year left on his current deal with Dortmund and is expected to leave the club in the summer.

“I can basically confirm what [Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim] Watzke said, that Mats is considering Bayern,” Rummenigge is quoted by sport1.de [via the Independent], ahead of Bayern’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid.

“There are three sides to this affair, though, and I would ask for understanding that I do not want to go into further detail about this here and now. We have got to bear in mind that he has a contract and I would not like to damage the great relationship that we have built up with Dortmund over the past two years by making one imprudent remark.”

In another news, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed that the club would be interested in bringing back Mario Gotze from Bayern Munich in the summer.

Gotze is supposedly Liverpool’s number one transfer target, but it appears now that the Reds will have a serious fight on their hands in the pursuit of the German playmaker. The 23-year-old left Dortmund for Bayern Munich in 2013, but he has failed to cement his spot in the Bayern’s starting eleven.

“If he were to come onto the market, however, and if we were to receive a signal that he would be interested in coming back to us, then we would discuss it – of course we would,” Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Sky Germany (via Bild).

“We have the utmost respect for him, but we would also have to discuss whether it makes sense for us from a sporting point of view. Everything has changed since he left us.”
